Bond House Books, a family-owned independent bookstore, is creating more than a place to buy books, it’s building a House of Readers where stories strengthen family and community bonds, local authors are celebrated, and readers and writers gather to create together.

Founded by author and UK Professor of Creative Writing Melissa Scholes Young and artist and UK MBA student Izzy Scholes-Young, Bond House Books is committed to championing Kentucky authors alongside diverse voices from across the literary landscape. The bookstore offers carefully curated books, author events, book clubs, writing workshops, and recurring craft nights designed to bring together readers, writers, artists, and neighbors around a shared table.

“Books create connections,” said owner Melissa Scholes Young. “Whether you’re reading your first novel, writing your own story, or gathering with friends to make art, we want Bond House Books to be a place where relationships grow. Our slogan, ‘House of Readers,’ reflects our belief that stories help build the family and community bonds that make a city thrive.”

Bond House Books believes independent bookstores are civic spaces where people discover new ideas, support local creators, and find a sense of belonging. Every event and every shelf is designed to encourage conversation across generations and experiences.

Until the permanent location opens in Fall 2027, Bond House Books is serving readers through pop-up events and online bookselling.
